Sites 1, 2, 16, 17

For sites 1, 2, 16, 17, large RVs may not be able to pull out both sides. These four sites are slightly farther from the toilets than sites 3-15, but very close to fishing and kayak put-in and have covered tables with space for tents. NOTE: Sites 1 and 16 are next to each other. Each has a table under the same roof and share a fire pit. Sites 2 and 17 are next to each other. Each has a table under the same roof and share a fire pit. In any combination, they are an excellent location for a group. There is room for an camper (no hook-ups, No side pull-outs in most cases) and a tent at each site. Please be considerate that you put your tent to leave space for another tent.

Sites 3, 4, 5, 6

These four sites are in the prime location next to the lake, toilets, small water pump. Sites 3-6 are side-by-side. In any combination, they are an excellent location for a group. Each site is made up of two parking spots that can each fit a short (30 ft max) RV (no hook-ups)(or any combo of RV/vehicle/tent between the two. A few steps away, each site includes a covered picnic table, but shares the covered pavilion (that can fit tents) and fire-ring with the adjacent site and shared space that can accommodate one-two tents per site.

Information on Sites 7, 8, 10-15 is available on HipCamp, and will be available here soon.

Site 9

This is an excellent site for a group while paying for only one site. It will fit a (50 ft max) RV (no hook-ups) or 3 cars. It is easy to get in to (because one side is along the road. It has a private table (not covered) and a private fire pit at the bottom and an additional fire pit at the top. The upper part has stunning views, and will fit several tents (4-6) but is very rocky. The breeze on the top reduces the bugs. It is not far from the toilets. It is next to the game trail, which is a pro if you want to go there with your dogs easily, but may mean a little nearby foot traffic and less privacy (though there will be signs up).

Sites 18 and 19

Campsites 18 and 19 are to the left shortly after entering the park. The sites are marked with brown stones with yellow numbers. They are farther from the toilets, but offer excellent privacy and lots of space. Each site will hold an RV (no hook-ups) and a tent. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. Maximum of 2 RVs and 2 vehicles for the two combined sites in order to leave room for parking for sites 20 and 21, which are about 100 and 200 steps up a trail, or you can pay for sites 20 and 21 and put up to 2 additional RVs or tents in the circle pull-out with 18 and 19.

These campsites may become muddy in heavy rains, but I do usually try to keep an eye on the site and weather and if it looks like it will be muddy, I contact you and look for back-up site options. However, there are no refunds if a back-up site cannot be found.

Sites 20 and 21

These are Walk-In sites and a good distance from the bathrooms. These sites are perfect for the ultimate nature lover and adventurer and afford maximum privacy. It requires approximately 100 steps for Site 20 and 200 steps for Site 21 from the parking spot at sites 18/19. Each site has space for a tent, a private picnic table (not covered), and a fire ring. The path may become muddy in heavy rains (though the sites themselves usually drains pretty well, and we did some trenching and gravel work on the path in summer 2024). I do usually try to keep an eye on the site and weather and if it looks like it will be muddy, I contact you and look for back-up site options. However, there are no refunds if a back-up site cannot be found.

Credit cards (MasterCard/Visa/Discover) are accepted for payment when making reservations online. All reservations can be made 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Daily campsite and cabin check-in is noon and check-out is 11am.

RESERVATIONS WILL BE TAKEN THROUGH SEPTEMBER 17, 2024, BUT YOU CAN PAY A THE FEE STATION IF YOU DON’T HAVE A RESERVATION. AFTER SEPTEMBER 17, 2024 IT IS A FIRST COME FIRST SERVED ONLY. THE PARK CLOSES SEPTEMBER 30.

An important word about Valdez weather and glaciers . . .

Valdez weather reports are notoriously innacurate. Any forecast further than three days out should not be considered reliable. There are a number of "microclimates" in the area, so weather in town can be different than in the Sound, which can be different than Thompson Pass. Be suspicious of weather reports that call for days or weeks on end of rain. That may mean it's going to be gray and sprinkly intermittently or may mean a steady rain. It's impossible to know unless you're here so simply plan accordingly. Bring layers and rain gear, and enjoy Mother Nature in all her moods and glory.
